TEHRAN (NIPNA)- Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak visited the 27th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show) on Wednesday, accompanied by Iranian Petroleum Minister Javad Owji.

The visit took place on the first day of the four-day exhibition, which is being held at the city’s permanent fairgrounds with the presence of more than 200 foreign companies from 13 countries.

Novak and Owji toured the pavilions of Iranian and Russian companies and discussed the prospects of cooperation in the energy sector.

Novak said that Russia is interested in expanding its partnership with Iran in various fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals, nuclear power and renewables.

He also praised Iran's achievements in the oil and gas industry and expressed hope that the exhibition would provide a platform for exchanging experiences and technologies between the two countries.

Owji also said that Iran and Russia are working together to overcome the challenges posed by Western sanctions and to increase their economic sustainability.

Iran Oil Show is among the most significant oil and gas events in the world in terms of the number of participants and its diversity.

Iran, the second-largest OPEC producer, holds 11% of the world's oil reserves and 18% of the world's gas reserves.

Russia and Iran, both under Western sanctions, are forging closer ties in order to support their economies and to undermine Western sanctions which they both cast as unjustified.
