CEO Stresses Carbon Management in Gas Reduction Policy

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Morteza Shahmirzai, the Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), highlighted the importance of implementing a gas reduction policy with the goal of carbon management.

In a recent gathering discussing the "Strategic Carbon Management Projects,” he emphasized the petrochemical industry's alignment with environmental sustainability and its various initiatives to protect the environment, particularly in carbon management.

Shahmirzai, during the meeting, stressed the necessity for petrochemical companies to adhere to environmental principles.

He stated that the steps taken to develop a carbon management strategy in the petrochemical industry demonstrate its commitment to environmental preservation.

Furthermore, Shahmirzai noted that environmental considerations have been incorporated into the construction of new projects, with the NPC collaborating with the Environmental Protection Organization for monitoring and supervision, ensuring compliance with the prescribed measures.

Citing ongoing projects dedicated to environmental conservation, Shahmirzai mentioned the significant role that the Hemmat Petrochemical project in Asaluyeh can play in reducing pollution.

He further highlighted the upcoming launch of the NGL 3100 project in Dehloran as another achievement in environmental protection within the petrochemical industry.

The NPC CEO acknowledged the remarkable reduction in associated gas flaring through the collaboration of the National Iranian Oil Company and petrochemical holdings. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to achieve effective carbon management in line with the established plans.

He stated that all petrochemical projects and complexes, with a focus on Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management, must collaborate to achieve carbon management in the petrochemical industry.

Shahmirzai continued, affirming that the HSE management of the National Petrochemical Company is ready to support and collaborate with petrochemical companies in environmental preservation. He urged the HSE units of these companies to prioritize environmental activities diligently.

In addition to representatives from the National Petrochemical Company's HSE, participants from the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company, the Petroleum Industry Research Institute, and Sharif Industrial University were present at the gathering, further emphasizing the importance of health, safety, environment, and non-military defense in the petrochemical sector.

The National Petrochemical Company's commitment to carbon management and environmental protection signifies a progressive approach in the industry. With ongoing initiatives and collaborative efforts, the petrochemical sector aims to achieve sustainable growth while ensuring the preservation of the environment.
