TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran's Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company underscored the importance of implementing energy management systems across all petrochemical complexes in the country during a coordination meeting of energy specialists in the petrochemical industry.

Speaking at the event, Morteza Shahmirzaei paid tribute to the esteemed martyrs of the Iran-Iraq War and marked the occasion of Unity Week.

He emphasized the necessity of energy management in the industry, highlighting that its implementation by the National Petrochemical Company would not only protect the environment but also increase the value-added of energy carriers in the sector.

The Deputy Minister of Petroleum considered wasteful energy consumption as a form of extravagance and stressed the importance of enforcing legal requirements for energy efficiency in the petrochemical industry.

He commended efforts to reduce or eliminate flaring in the oil industry, particularly mentioning the collection of associated gases in the West Karun region to supply some of the required feedstock for the petrochemical industry.

Shahmirzaei pointed out that managing resources is a prerequisite for energy management, drawing parallels with the vital role resource management played during the Iran-Iraq War. He suggested that adopting lessons from that era could be highly effective in achieving energy-related goals.

He noted that currently, more than 30 petrochemical complexes in the country have implemented international energy management systems.

He emphasized the need for other petrochemical companies to follow suit.

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company added that the mission of energy management is based on knowledge sharing, resource management, and drawing from successful experiences in the petrochemical industry, both nationally and internationally. Reducing energy consumption intensity is a key objective of this mission.

Concluding his remarks, he expressed hope that compliance with legal requirements and the tangible positive results of energy management in the petrochemical industry would serve as a suitable model for other industries to emulate.
