TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran's Petroleum Minister Javad Owji on Thursday condemned a terrorist attack in Kerman that killed at least 100 people and injured dozens.

"The bitter and sorrowful incident of the terrorist attack and the martyrdom of a number of dear compatriots by the evil terrorists, on the eve of the commemoration of the ascension of the hearts of the people, martyr Qassem Soleimani, caused great pain and sorrow," Owji said in a statement.

"This cowardly attack on innocent civilians on the way to the Kerman Martyrs Cemetery once again revealed the baseness and vileness of the enemies of the Iranian people."

Owji said that the "accomplices and henchmen of the usurper Zionist regime, after failing in designing and implementing the project of destabilizing the Islamic Republic of Iran, have used all their efforts to incite hatred against the patient and resistant people of Iran."

"These mercenary terrorists and their murderous masters had received crushing responses from the indomitable people of Iran and martyr Qassem Soleimani, as the symbol of resistance and struggle of this noble nation, to the extent that they were afraid of holding the commemoration ceremony of his martyrdom and turned it into a bloodbath."

Owji said that "no doubt the perpetrators of this crime will soon be punished for this cowardly act."

He also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
