TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- In a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company, Ali Akbar Hosseini Mehrab, the Governor of Khuzestan, underscored the significant potential of the petrochemical industry in generating revenue and creating substantial employment opportunities for the country.

He emphasized that with the utilization of existing feedstock, petrochemical companies should move towards the development of downstream industries.

Addressing the audience, Mehrab stated, "The development of the petrochemical production cycle has high potential for revenue generation and significant job creation for the country. Petrochemical industries, by utilizing available feedstock, should pivot towards the development of downstream industries."

Recognizing the value of petrochemical products and their contribution to the country's economy, Mehrab asserted that investments in the petrochemical sector should focus on completing the value chain, preventing raw material sales, and increasing added value.

He added, "Knowledge-based companies can play a significant role in achieving these developmental goals in the petrochemical industry."

Governor of Khuzestan continued, stating, "Nearly 73% of the per capita income in Khuzestan is derived from the oil and petrochemical industry. In comparison, the employment share is relatively low, and efforts should be made to alter this ratio."

The remarks from the Khuzestan governor highlight the strategic importance of the petrochemical industry in Iran, emphasizing its potential to contribute not only to economic growth but also to job creation and the development of downstream sectors.
