Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to the third International
Eurasia Trade Exhibition, Baziyar highlighted the importance of developing both
the industry and its surrounding environment in tandem. He noted that in the
past, industrial hubs in Iran tended to focus on local community development
only after their plants were operational. These efforts usually involved
various community initiatives such as education, culture, and technical
training.
However, Baziyar pointed out that Shastan and the Negin Development
Company, a key player in the Makran petrochemical project, approach this issue
differently. From the outset, the focus has been on both the local environment
and ecosystem, incorporating broad strategies for sustainable development,
particularly in terms of environmental considerations. He cited the procurement
of equipment and technology selection, as well as the construction of a
desalination water intake system, as examples of this approach.
“The industry must fulfill its role and responsibilities towards the
host community, the local population,” Baziyar said. "Our goal from the
beginning has been to create a promising future for the local community through
impactful initiatives. Empowering the local people and building the capacity
for local development in our plants are central to this effort."
One significant initiative has been the establishment of two
educational centers in the Chabahar area: a technical high school and a
vocational training center focused on petrochemical skills. These institutions
aim to train local students and young people for careers in the petrochemical
sector, ensuring future job security for the community.
Baziyar also pointed out that a key achievement was the inauguration
of the 230 kV electrical substation at the Makran Petrochemical City by local
workforce members. After completing specialized training under the supervision
of the Negin Petrochemical Development Company, these local workers are now
employed at the substation.
“This is a significant step in empowering the local workforce and
enhancing the skill sets required to improve the operational efficiency of the
facility,” he said.
In closing, Baziyar emphasized that this approach goes beyond merely
fulfilling corporate social responsibility. Shastan aims to cultivate a culture
of social responsibility within the petrochemical industry, ensuring that it
becomes an integral part of its organizational ethos.
